Ford Model A, Here and Now
In 1927 Ford unveiled the Ford Model A, they produced the Model A from 1928 to 1931... WAIT... hit the brakes if you would like the details, numbers and all that good stuff on the Ford Model A hit up Wikipedia this is Old Custom Cars version of the types of Model A Fords. I’ll put in some links for those that want more info on the model A.
There’s a Ford Model A for everyone
We see lot’s of Ford Model A’s around as they are a bargain compared to the 1932, 1933 and 1934 of the same era. Three versions of the Model A that you typically see are Original or Restored, Street Rod, and Hot Rod, I know this is not what you were thinking, more like Coupe, Roadster, Sedan or maybe Model A trucks.
I was thinking we would check out a variety cool rides that just so happen to be Model A’s. They make great cars to restore as originals or customize anywhere from a mild look with a nice paint job, wheels to a full blown custom or better yet a traditional hot rod.
There is a large following for the Model A
Its always nice seeing a stock “original”or restored Model A out in the wild, as mentioned above they really had all the bases covered with the coupes, sedans roadsters and trucks, and with lot’s of colors to choose from, there was a Model A to suit the needs of many back in the day, even today they are highly popular.
There are over 280 Model A chapters on Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA) there are about 70 plus Model A Chapters in California alone. From MAFCA - “The Model A Ford Club of America, Inc. (MAFCA) is dedicated to the restoration, preservation and enjoyment of the Ford Model A and AA cars and trucks, as manufactured from 1928 through 1931” There is a huge love and following for the Model A’s from groups like the MAFCA that want to keep them as original as possible.
Here are a few Model A’s, note the second photo down of the lite blue 1931 Ford Model A is actually a reproduction of the Model A Ford, it was built many years ago, they did such a great job on it as you would really need to know your Model A cars to see the difference even in person.
I believe that the Model A has to be one of the most varied and customized cars out there. We see everything from restored to fully customized Model A Fords
The traditional hot rod
Not just a car, it’s a life style
My personal favorite are the traditional Hot Rod Model A Fords, yes some feel that the custom street rods can be hot rods also but the hot rods that we’re talking about are the traditional hot rods, I would say it’s more of a life style, these are the cars that you might of seen racing down the strip in the early days of hot rodding, hot rods that were built in garages back then and even now, and taken out on the weekend to see who built the fastest car.
These are by far my favorite cars, not only the cars but also the life style of this hobby. There are meet ups and races all over the US with these Model A Fords which are well represented along with other cool cars of the same era. If you want to take an adventure back in time check out some of these fun hot rod events, there are many events like this around like Antique Nationals, RPM Nationals, F.A.S.T. Hill Climb and many more though out the US. These events are just as much fun for the spectators as the participants you will definitely see lot’s of smiles.
