Gassers
Not sure if there is a car or truck that gets more attention than a gasser, when I see them they sure get my attention. Gassers were popular in the drag race scene in the 50’s and 60’s before pro-stock. They were called gassers because they ran on gasoline instead of racing fuel, they were in the Gasoline Class “Gasser for short” and the distinctive straight axle and raised front end that we know and love was for weight transfer.
Some of the earlier gassers were Willy’s and Anglia, other popular cars that make cool looking gassers that we might see at the drag strip or at a car show are Chevy Tri-Fives especially the ‘55 chevy, Corvettes, Chevy Novas, Ford Falcons, Truck Gassers are some of my favorite.
That straight axle and raised front end probably made it difficult to drive these hot rods on the street, we do see them at local car shows, unfortunately we don’t see a too many gassers around. You can catch a few of cool gassers if you head over to Eagle Field Drags
