Randy Lotz garage built 1935 Dodge Truck

While in Clovis, CA, at the Old Town Motorama car show, I heard what sounded like a hotrod coming down the street. I turned and saw a Dodge truck that blew me away. It was black with red striping, and it had a perfect stance that looked to be about 1' lower than a stock truck, a great choice of wheels. You could tell right away that the owner did many unique details on the ride, like the taillights made from pistons; it had bombs in the truck's bed that turned out to be reserve gas tanks.

Randy Lotz owns the 1935 Dodge Truck that was at the Motorama car show. Randy built the hotrod himself with some help from his dad.

Randy purchase the truck in 1991 after seeing it for sale in the local paper, when he bought the truck it was just a bunch of parts bolted together it didn’t have a motor or transmission, but it did have a newly chromed grille and suicide doors and he just knew that he had to have the truck.

Randy hauled the truck up to his parents place where he would work on the truck while visiting with them. Randy and his dad would work on the truck, it was his dad’s idea for the oak wood side boards and oak wood dash board. One time when Randy went up to work on the truck his dad presented him with the window trim that he had re-chromed.

Randy said that his dad was a big influence growing up, checking out the truck I could see the connection between the truck and Randy’s dad, like the Lee’s Auto Repair sign that was painted on the door of the truck. Lee’s Auto Repair was a shop that his dad owned and where Randy worked growing up, working in the shop with is dad is how Randy learned how to work on cars.

This is one of the reasons why I love to talk to the owners of these garage built rides, more times than not there is some kind of connection with the vehicle and their parents or it might of been the car that they drove in high school, maybe it was the vehicle that their dad drove. In Randy’s case his dad had a part in building the truck, I’m thinking this truck will not be for sale anytime soon.

The engine is a 360 from a 2000 Dodge Ram Truck Randy took off the electronic fuel injection and installed a high-performance cam. Between the cam and headers, it sounds perfect. It has a three-speed automatic with a racing shifter, power steering, and racing seats.

When Randy got the truck, it had a Corvair front running gear that he changed for a Mustang 2. Living way out from the city lights, Randy decided to install projection headlights with the original-looking metal housings; they seem to fit this truck nicely. You can see Randy's truck at car shows in the southern part of the Central Valley, glad that I had the opportunity to check out this fantastic Hotrod Truck.
