Hot August Nights kicks off in Virginia City

Hot August Nights in Nevada is one of the premier get togethers for classic and custom car enthusiasts as thousands of people from all over the western United States and converge in Reno Nevada. Hot August Nights is a week long event and it spills over to other near by Nevada cities and towns. One of the towns is the well preserved western “some would say ghost” town of Virginia City.

Hot August nights kicks off in Virginia City where 300-400 classic cars line the main down town street. Most of the classic cars were from Nevada which is rich in the classic car culture, along with all the classics from Nevada there were some from California, Oregon and Utah.

With all the history oozing out this old western town it makes this classic car event a fun, unique and a must see, not just for the cool cars that we all love but also to explore the small towns history, museums, old looking shops and the reportedly haunted old Washoe Club and right down the road is the old Pioneer Cemeteries.

Well Worth The Drive

Virginia City is way up in the Nevada High Desert but it’s only about a 35 minute scenic drive from Reno and about 25 minutes from Carson City Nevada. This is the kick off event for Hot August Nights in Nevada, the event has kinda local vibe to it as most of the cars are from Nevada but you will also see cars from California, Utah and other near by states.

When traveling to Virginia City you will most likely run across a heard of wild horses as they are prevalent throughout the area, look for them on your trip and in and around this high desert town.

Virgina City has a rich history, back in the 1800’s people came from all over the world to mine the gold and silver in and around Virginia City, if you should go be sure to check out the old Pioneer Cemeteries as you walk through the cemetery and read some go the grave stones you will quickly realize how difficult the times were back then.

Even though Virgina City is now a tourist town the old buildings and shops look like they are right out of the turn of the turn of the century. Hot August Nights Virginia City is a great classic car show that should be on everyone’s list to visit.
